about

I came up with this guitar riff while hanging out with a 6 yr old boy. I picked up his tiny guitar and just started noodling (not for catfish). We had fun that day.
What followed was less fun, involving alcohol, vehicles, loved ones, and something about pots and kettles.
Thus, the song...

lyrics

Don't get in the car.
Don't turn on the lights.
I know you wanna go home,
but not tonight.
It's not just you
I'm worried about
But if you don't check in
you might check out.
Yes, it's true I want a shot.
It'd sure feel good.
How could it not?

He's waiting at the bar.
He's got a seat for me.
If only those drinks
would pour for free.
I'd be there right now
trying to forget you,
the losses and the letdowns
and all that we've been through.
Yes, It's true you're not alone.
The twenty's in my pocket
and I don't have to drive home.

Oh, we can't afford this anymore.
But there I go, walking through the door.

There's nothing more to say.
There's nothing left to do.
The backseat and the blanket
are fine for you.
So I"ll walk the night away,
sit with my new friends,
try a new beginning
and hope it don't get me in the end.

Oh, we can't afford this anymore
but there I go, walking through the door...
