about

I lived out west for a bit, and it was great n all, but I missed my loved ones in ol' virginny.....
The first line is inspired by friend and fellow songwriter Paul Curreri, when describing his favorite song, Azalea: "the song that makes me love everybody....almost everybody".
I played the song right after I wrote it to one of my house mates (the deva) and his response was "you know, if you don't like the feng shui around here, we can change it. I want you to be comfortable". lol
I was pretty depressed in that house but it wasn't because of the house. I was depressed because I'd gotten scared upon finding my people and lifetimes love and had decided to run clear across the country to avoid my destiny. So I started a collection of Sake bottles. But of course I had to empty them all first.... down my gullet.
The people I lived with were pretty cool. One had taken on a guru persona and did a good job helping me find liberation, one was a young tall, dark, sweetheart Goth kid, and one had PTSD from standing up to discrimination on her job. She nurtured the activist in me.
I was glad I was now in an earlier time zone cuz i could call my friends as soon as i woke up (at the buttcrack) without waking them up. Ruthie was now going by her Yogi name. I didn't think I'd miss southern hospitality (especially considering I originally hail from Baltimore) but Kimmy considered it a sign of good home training. She would have balked at the Portlandiers.
I was challenged by all kinds of new types of people to step out of my comfort zone. This one guy who'd named himself after a German hummingbird and them married himself pushed me to ride my bike further than I'd ever ridden before. I didn't think I could do it but a mile is the same as five miles or ten miles once you get going and my reward at the end of the journey was meeting the sweetest lover who brought me to deeper levels of intimacy.

lyrics

I love everyone. Almost everyone
I like the birds and the trees, the flowers and their seeds
it's a pretty day, an easy Sunday
even the fan is on low, it's taking it slow
I slept half the day, starting yesterday
my body aches from the ride, though I'm taking it in stride
and oh, what a ride it's been
and oh how I long for my kin.

so now the house is clean, I mean really clean
though if I had my way there'd be better feng shui
the kitty's purring low, her name is Niko
we live with darkness, divine, a lady on the line
I miss Ruthie, her name's not Ruthie
she's gonna change it today, a thousand miles away
and oh what a long ways away
and oh how i wish I was there today, just today.

I miss home training, good southern home training.
'Can I make you comfortable? Can I stuff ya till yer full?'
Then I found Sake, sweet yummy sake
and while I stare at the walls I drink to grow some balls
but that don't work here, they won't let me steer clear
of who I came here to be, which is really just me
and oh what a glorious me!
I think I'll have another sip of Sake
but that's me, just me, you'll see....
